Elevation Chart
This is a fun graphic from OurAmazingPlanet. There's lots of good info on it, but there are two bits that I want to draw your attention to.
1.) The depth of drilling by the Deepwater Horizon. 18,000 ft below sea level! Their drill is over 3 miles long. That's halfway through the Earth's crust.
2.) The Mariana Trench is the deepest point in the ocean at 36 thousand feet. On January 23, 1960, the Trieste submarine reached the ocean floor of the Trench. So in 1959 we put a probe on the moon, and 4 months later we dived to the deepest point in the ocean.
What have we done lately?
