Nuclear Weapons in Spaaaace!
Man, when we get a new toy, we really want to play with it. Turns out in 1962, the U.S. blew up a hydrogen bomb in outer space. Now space is a big place, so maybe this isn't a big deal.
But we wanted to SEE it blow up!
Those fools ignited 'The Bomb' only 250 miles up. In comparison, GPS satellites orbit at 12,000 miles. 250 miles up is basically the International Space Station, or half the distance to the Hubble.
Thanks NPR!
