Obama's 1st Year

Recently I was asked if I like Obama as a president. The sad thing is that I couldn't really say. What has Obama done in his first year of office? Luckily, one of my more politically minded friends posted this link which lists off some of the changes our government has made.

Here are a few of my favorites:

- Passed Healthcare Reform: Say what you will about it, but helping sick Americans is a good thing. Actually, before you say anything, make sure you have at least a few facts.

- Signed into law, new mileage and emissions standard for cars and SUVs

- Ended the ban on Stem Cell Research

- Passed Student Loan Reform, and used the savings to significantly increase financial aid loans and grants

- Passed Credit Card Reform (Minimizing predatory lending, making the terms of credit cards clear, eliminating arbitrary rate increases)

- Drew down troops in Iraq for a 2011 withdrawal date

- Drew down Guantanamo Bay detainees and making preparations to close it by 2011

- Stopped the dismissals of homosexual individuals serving in the military by the Pentagon


I have to say, it's a much happier list than Bush's.
